Watch 'Love but Different'

Cinta Tapi Beda is the film produced by Multivision Plus, co-directed by Hanung Bramantyo and his student, Hestu Saputra. Only his second film, it features a roster of actors including Agni Pratistha as Diana Fransiska, Reza Nangin (Cahyo Fadholi), Choky Sitohang (Oka), Ratu Felisha (Mitha), Agus Kuncoro (Mitha's new boyfriend), Jajang C Noer (Diana's mother) and Nungky Kusumastuti (Cahyo's aunt). The plot focuses on Cahyo who finds out that his girlfriend is cheating on him and tries to rise above a low phase in his life. While visiting his aunt Mbak Dyah, he meets Diana, a dancer, and falls in love with her. Paraphrased, it's basically about the love between a man and a woman of different religions. Both Hanung and Hestu try to show the differences around us, however, discussing religion is not an easy issue to tackle. Further differences between the two are portrayed through their different professions: one a chef, the other a dancer.

Taty Apriliyana, Novia Faizal and Perdana Kartawiyudha wrote the script that attempts to present a dialogue at certain intervals to strengthen the argument for different religions. The film's cinematography succeeds in capturing the various locations set in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Padang, showing the uniqueness of each city in details — including their different religions, cultures and traditions. Agni's effort in learning how to dance should be appreciated and newcomer Reza steals the show for being the soft and polite man with strong principles. Jajang demonstrates her abilities as a tested actor, while Choky tries hard to play the mature Catholic yet at the same time present an understanding and philosophical face.Cahyo greets his acquaintanceCahyo greets his acquaintance

Hestu needs some time to fine-tune his film directing, a medium so different from soap operas. Erros Chandra is careful with the scores, while Wayan I Wibowo exhibits some good work in the overall editing. The film's ending is really a breakthrough and is quite different from the usual films of similar genres.
