Indonesia's Film Production: 'Surga Menanti' (Heaven Awaits)

Khanza Film just released its new drama genre titled 'Surga Menanti' (Heaven Waits) last Thursday, June 9th. It is directed by Hasto Broto and features actors Agus Kuncoro, Dela Puspita, Syekh Ali, Umi Pipiek, Astri Ivo, Syakir Daulay. The plot is about Dafa, a teen whose goal is to become a Hafizh Qur'an. When he is about to claim his dream, he faces a tough situation: his mother Humaira is diagnosed with leukemia. His father Yusuf (Agus Kuncoro) asks him to return to accompany his mother who is in critical condition. His love for his mother prompts him to return home and attend school in his hometown where he begins a new chapter of his life.

It is never easy to produce a film with a religious background, yet Hasto Broto manages to stay clear of all forms of preaching. Agus Kuncoro stands out among the actors for a soulful performance. The cinematography is excellent overall and is accentuated with interesting angles that enliven the more relevant scenes. Viewers are engaged throughout the film from scene to scene, and with their emotions frequently invoked.
